Stupid, untalented, ugly, shy…
Those are words my former self might use to describe me.
What a load of BULLSHIT!
This will NOT be another “poor me” story, I promise! Â I think we’ve all heard way more of those than we’ll ever need.
I don’t have a broken home, tear at your heart strings story of pain and sacrifice for you. I also wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth and handed everything on a silver platter.
I was raised in a middle-class family by two great parents that loved me very much. My dad was a construction foreman and my mom was a housewife (yes kids, that was a real thing back in the day…look it up).
I was taught right from wrong, to respect my elders and to stick up for myself. One of my dads favorite sayings was “Michael, if you ever need a hand, look down your arm”.
Now don’t think for a second that my dad wasn’t willing to help me out, that’s not what he was saying at all. The guy would give the shirt off his back to help anyone that needed it. What he WAS saying was “learn to fend for yourself and don’t always rely on others. Be self sufficient and learn to solve problems”. We was a very wordy dude…clearly I’m wordier.
So why did I have these negative thoughts if I had a such a sweet ass upbringing?
‘Cause life is like peeling an onion. You’ve got to go through each layer to get to the good stuff. (pretty poetic right?)
Seriously though, I believe that I was created with those little limitations on PURPOSE. Â What?
That’s right. Having those limiting beliefs was a total gift. See, if we all came flying out of the womb perfectly in tune with ourselves and without limits, what would we have to grow into?
Overcoming these “challenges” over the years are what forged me into the super badass that I am today! Â I’ll still face more challenges (and still re-face some of those old ones) but that’s all part of the process.
We can learn from each others struggles. Each of us is an untapped goldmine of awesomeness and I’m totally pumped to share the journey with you.
